The exterior siding of LEAFHouse is a simple and unassuming composition of wood, glass, vegetation, and corrugated metal, each one clarifying the architectural spaces within. The bar of service spaces (kitchen, toilet, laundry, combiner boxes on roof) are wrapped in corrugated metal and defined with a parapet wall at the roof level.
The living room is revealed by the glass, and has a solid wall only at the desiccant wall. Our "green wall," a system of plantings mounted vertically, reflects the bedroom beyond and also brings the site and our building together. The siding is indigenous to the Chesapeake Bay region — tongue-and-groove vertical FSC-certified Eastern White Pine — and is installed over a breathable drainage mat.
